Phil Lynott wеnt οn a solo tour during a brеаk frοm Thin Lizzy’s 1983 Farewell tour аnd took wіth hіm John Sykes аnd Brian Downey frοm Lizzy, аѕ well аѕ two future members οf Grand Slam (Mаrk Stanway аnd Doish Nagle) tο dο ѕοmе gigging. Thіѕ unit wаѕ known аѕ thе “Three Musketeers”. “A Night іn thе Life οf A Blues Singer” wаѕ a track first recorded bу Thin Lizzy back іn 1978, bυt wаѕ never οn аnу official release аnd wаѕ οnlу played live bу Lizzy once (Reading Festival 1983). Lynott аnd crew play a blistering version οf іt here, wіth John Sykes leading thе way οn guitar. Thіѕ іѕ taken frοm thе “Live іn Sweden” disc, recorded 8/15/1983.

I’ve got two versions of this song live and recorded both of them grand slam cd’s and both of them very hard to find took me years searching all the small cd shops of dublin i never shop online but would try looking up grand slam cds
I think the VKWA boxset is the only ‘official’ place where you can get the studio version of this song. I’m not quite sure about European releases.
Other than that, you’d have to look for the original “Nineteen” single from ‘85.
Sabfan, would you by any chance know where I could get a CD with this song on it- not the live version, the studio recording.
Thanks.
There’s the ‘78 demo with Gary Moore and the ‘85 B-Side of Nineteen, also with Moore. I’ve never posted either one…perhaps I’ll post the demo of it.
I would like to hear a version of this without John Sykes… just to hear the difference in the guitar, maybe it will be less flashy.
hy bsf, thanks a lot for this one. It´s a great song – and a great sound*****
phils voice is beautiful here. thin lizzy had something special in phil and they new it!
JOHN SYKES & Phil is forewer best
The Grand Slam Live 1984 album also has a wonderful version of this fabulous song. This is an excellent version as well. Thanks for posting!
This song is so good, yet so rare. It should be re-released.
Does anyone have the chords or a link to the chords for this please?
Love it x
such a good song!
he is in sweden there i come from bad that i wasent was born then
just great
Yep, I have the version off that single and the version that was played at Reading for the BBC concert. All the versions are quite good.
There’s definitely a studio version of this. It was recorded in 78/79, but didn’t appear (I think) until the 12 inch version of Phil’s “Nineteen” 1985 single – it’s ok, but the best version is the 1983 BBC Concert CD. That 83 concert also has great sound by the way.
Agreed – the version on that cd is fantastic, and probably almost the best song on there. But I don’t agree with John & Scott touring under the name.
Agreed, finest rock band to come out of Ireland. Johns Sykes’ solo is amazing in this song. Recommend the version on ‘BBC Live at Reading’ CD (DELETED NOW ME THINKS) possibly the finest, fastest guitar solo ever. Pity Phil’s gone, but its great his music is still played live thanks to John AND Scott’s Thin Lizzy, go see em, awesome
thin lizzy, greatest irish band ever even better than u2
One of Phil’s greatest and underrated songs. They played this the last time I saw them at Reading in 1983. Quality. The man was a genius.
oh it’s nice I’m crying now.
Love it.. Listened to them almost every day since I first got into them in ‘79. Lucky enough to have seen them live a dozen or so times. Legends!!
John Sykes tocando Blues! Que beleza, música lindÃssima!
I was at the festival….15 years old, my sister took me. I am so grateful to her for that. I’ll never forget seeing Lizzy at such a big venue.
Thanks for posting this version.
